2009 VisionMaker Video Contest - "Elder Voices, Youth Choices" - Deadline: Sept. 1, 2009

OVERVIEW

VisionMaker Video, a service of Native American Public Telecommunications (NAPT) is accepting online entries for the 2009 VisionMaker Video Contest until September 1, 2009. NAPT seeks to engage today’s youth by aiding in the development of their storytelling abilities through video. Contestants will produce a short video that relates to this year’s theme: Elder Voices, Youth Choices. The contest is open to legal residents of the U.S. and its territories who are 14-21 years of age at the time of entry. There is no entry fee for this contest.

The top five videos will be screened at NAPT’s biennial 2009 VisionMaker Film Festival (Festival) from October 30 to November 5, 2009 in Lincoln, NE. The Festival is a showcase of Native American documentaries and feature films.

JUDGING

Videos will be selected based on the following criteria:

• Creativity • Entertainment value
• Fitting to theme • Storytelling ability

Chris Eyre, (Cheyenne-Arapaho), We Shall Remain, Smoke Signals, Skins
Jenni Monet, (Laguna Pueblo), Cherokees By Blood, Losing Ground
Dr. Kwakiutl L. Dreher, UNL Associate Professor of English and Ethnic Studies

PRIZES

The Grand Prize and Audience Choice Award winners will receive a $100 gift card and one DVD from VisionMaker Video of the winner’s choice. The top five videos will be screened at the 2009 VisionMaker Film Festival and will be featured on NAPT’s website, www.nativetelecom.org.

TO ENTER

1. Register at www.nativetelecom.org. This is where you will upload your video.
2. Download a 2009 VisionMaker Video Contest Entry Form.
3. Fill out form and upload signed form with your video submission. Forms may also be faxed to 402-472-8675 or emailed to [email protected]. All submissions will need a completed and signed form or will not be considered for the contest. Minors, persons under 18, submitting an entry should receive his or her parent or legal guardian’s permission and include his or her parent’s/legal guardian’s signature on the release or it will not be considered for the contest.

The top five finalists will be notified by email or phone on September 17, 2009. The Grand Prize and Audience Award winners will be notified by email or phone on October 2, 2009.

No entries will be accepted after the deadline. NAPT holds the right to disqualify or remove any media content
