From the Directors Desk - June 2007
by Shirley Sneve
This month marks my third year at NAPT. I'm very proud of our accomplishments-new projects and new partners that steer us towards our mission of supporting the creation, promotion and distribution of Native Media. NAPT is fortunate to have a group of very dedicated and talented employees. We're backed by a national board that brings a wealth of experience to our governance.
I'm just back from SilverDocs Film Festival in Silver Spring, MD, after two days of meetings convened by the Ford Foundation. Native American Public Telecommunications is part of Ford's Public Media initiative "Global Perspectives in a Digital Age". We saw an inspirational documentary about Musician/Activist Pete Seeger as part of opening night festivities.
Throughout Pete Seeger's life, he put himself on the line for what he believed in. I am proud that Native filmmakers do the same, and that NAPT can play a part in finding an audience for these important stories on Public Television and Radio, through the AIROS Native Network and our on-line sales catalog VisionMaker Video.
I hope you can join us in this important work to tell Native stories by contributing to the Vision Maker Fund. Please go online to make a tax-deductible contribution.
Finally, if you haven't had a chance to listen to the AIROS Native Network, I recommend that you engage in our 24/7 Internet radio station to hear a unique mix of contemporary and traditional music from tribes across the country, as well as important documentaries at www.airos.org
Pilamaye,
Shirley K. Sneve (Rosebud Sioux) Executive Director
