Native American Public Telecommunications (NAPT) is partnering this year with the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) to expand the focus of NAJA’s annual convention. Slated for July 21-23 in St. Paul, MN, the theme for the NATIVE NATIONS MEDIA CONFERENCE (NNMC) is Words + Images x Technology = Power.

“Because of the convergence of the many forms of media, NNMC will offer something for everyone engaged in the media. From multi-media reporting, utilizing the Internet and social media tools, graphic design, marketing, creative writing, public relations, art and photography, radio, TV and film, we’re hoping that Native media professionals and students will attend to learn skills and meet each other,” NAPT Executive Director Shirley K. Sneve said. “In times of scarce resources, it becomes more important for Tribal people to reach out to each other for support and partnerships.”

“We have posted new information on our website about the 2010 NAJA Media Awards, 2010 NAJA Convention Workshop Proposals, as well as the 2010 Project Phoenix and Native Voices (formerly Student Projects) workshops,” NAJA Executive Director Jeff Harjo said. “The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2010.”

With support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, scholarships will be offered for those in need of financial assistance to attend the conference.

In addition to NAPT and NAJA, many other organizations are partnering to making this a very successful conference. For information about the conference, becoming a partner or submitting a workshop proposal, go to http://www.naja.com/index.php/2010-convention/
