New Music Program Premieres on AIROS

UnderCurrents premieres on the AIROS Native Radio Network, September 19. RadioCamp and Koahnic Broadcast Corporation are proud to present this innovative new music service for Public Radio. The music mix will be eclectic with a strong foundation in AAA, Indigenous/Roots and World Music. Co-Executive Producer and Host Gregg McVicar (Tlingit) says there will also be plenty of Rock and other modern sounds to keep things energized.

“We’re not going to put a label on this format, but we can say with great confidence that people who love music and love good radio will dig what they hear and will stay tuned,” McVicar said.

Co-Executive Producer, Susan Braine (Assinaboine), in charge of administering the CPB grant said, “We hope this music service will be a valuable resource for many public radio stations-not just the Native stations.”

UnderCurrents is a reference to the powerful unseen forces that music represents. The four hour-program is conceived as a way for stations to extend their service by adding exciting and relevant programming for several hours per day in an affordable manner.

“AIROS is pleased to distribute this new music program. Since Native Sounds-Native Voices is ending its production this fall, UnderCurrents will continue the AIROS tradition of providing a great mix of Native music,” said NAPT Director of Radio and Television Shirley Sneve.
