Native Media Technology Network Group Forms

Frank Blythe I hope Spring is treating you well on your pathways of work and life. At NAPT, we continue to work towards our mission
of “supporting the creation, distribution and promotion of Native public media.” With this in mind, we embark on a new
partnership for the future of Native media and technology—the Native Media and Technology Network (NMTN).
To date, six major Indian organizations have participated in this process initially funded by the Administration for
Native Americans.

This national coalition of Native organizations have a mission to build media and technology knowledge and capacity among American Indian Nations and communities through the development of culturally relevant content for local, national, and global distribution.
NMTN’s objectives are to:

1. Establish a pilot Native media and technology center that exemplifi es the guiding strategy of the Native Media and Technology Network;

2. Establish a network of Native media and technology centers in conjunction with tribes, community-based American Indian organizations including private sector
entities, nonprofi t organizations, tribal colleges, public universities, and community colleges;

3. Utilize media and technology centers to promote Internet technology workforce training;

4. Utilize media and technology centers to promote media-sector workforce development and build media capacity among American Indians;

5. Provide leadership development services to American Indian youth interested in advancing their careers in media and technology;

6. Create a business plan and establish a for-profi t media and technology subsidiary as a limited liability corporation; and

7. Establish a National Native Media Conference.

Every year brings new ideas and new opportunities. The NAPT board is excited to see this Native Media and Technology Network move forward and grow as a long-range strategy that can provide services to Indian Country. We’ll keep you up to date with progress reports in future newsletters.
