Producer Handbook: Finding An Outreach Consultant
FINDING AN OUTREACH CONSULTANT
Contact NCO, www.ncoengage.org or 866.234.2016, for names of outreach consultants. Also, ask your colleagues or NAPT for names of outreach consultants they’ve worked with whom they would recommend.
The following are suggested questions to guide your conversations with potential outreach consultants. Add any others that pertain specifically to your project or the way you like to work. When you call outreach consultants, be prepared to give them a brief overview of the film or series you are producing, where you are in the production process, whether you have a budget for outreach or are fundraising, whether you have a vision for what you want to happen or want a collaborator to create that vision.
- What projects have you worked on recently?
- Do you specialize in a topic area or working with special audiences?
- What have been some of the results of your efforts?
- How do you charge for your work? On a project basis? On a retainer? Hourly? Would you be willing to work on a retainer or on a particular aspect of the project (conceptualization, grant management, material development, etc.)?
- Can you provide names of clients who can serve as references?
- Would you be willing to draft a proposal with a budget including your services and the overall costs of the outreach? Do you charge for that? How much?
