Toby McLeod
Toby McLeod is a filmmaker and journalist who has worked with Indigenous communities for the past 35 years. McLeod holds a bachelor's degree in American history from Yale and a master's degree in journalism from the University of California-Berkeley.
McLeod's current project, Standing on Sacred Ground, is a four-episode series profiling eight Indigenous communities. While some episodes are set in the U.S., most follow Indigenous groups from across the globe. Locations include Russia, Papua New Guinea, Alberta, Ethiopia, Peru, Australia, Hawaii, and California. Although each community is unique, a common thread ties them all together -- each group of people is fighting to protect their sacred land from government or industrial megaprojects.
